The relatively old amongst the relatively new
Here we are today with the Los Angeles Central Public Library building with its shades of Mesopotamia (the pyramidal roof especially) and some sort of gentleman's club, both buildings dating from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, dwarfed by the late twentieth century skyscrapers of the downtown financial district. Actually, the latter are not that desperately new. Like the hotel we are staying in, I suspect most of the modern build around (and the ugly car park across the road) in fact date from around the time of the Los Angeles Olympics, which seems to be the last time that the place got a substantial facelift.
My fondness for the place has not increased. But at least, contra yesterday evening's weather forecast, it has rained all day today and brightened up towards the evening.
