As happy as a pig in .....
No work on Fridays, lots of boring things I should have been doing at home, but no - bouncing off on my new tyres, I headed off to the north side to return old sacks to Russell - those that had been used to transport the ex Aga Khan's horse's manure. Here everything gets recycled many times. Russell is renovating an old and what was derelict cottage. He has built an extension onto the original building and today was putting tiles on the roof. He is doing everything himself and locals are astonished that he should be bothering with the old place. Normal policy is to let the old homestead decay and put up a spanking new edifice next to it - at least that was what was happening until the economy went pear-shaped. Now there are a lot of half completed monstrosities lying empty and neglected.
Russell's cottage is on a fantastic site half way up the mountain. The surrounding area feels very ancient.
He is also clearing the land around the cottage and has bought four pigs to help with the job. They were brought from a farm where they had never been in daylight but have adapted extremely well to the open!! The field has been well rootled and manured! Yes, they will eventually be eaten, but at least they have had the opportunity to sample the good life first. I don't know, but there is something about pigs.
