Better than sliced bread
Thought I'd see if I could photograph in near darkness the bread we bought this morning. Result! Our favourite local baker won the bronze medal in last year's World Patisserie Championships in Lyon, France, so we are spoiled rotten for good bread. Pain campagne, on the left, is a sourdough country loaf. On the right is pain d'epi, a baguette in the shape of a spike of wheat - crackly crust on the outside and a chewy, moist intereior. Add some homemade quince jelly and Normandy sea salt butter and I'm set for the day.
On the way to the baker this morning we stopped by the egg farm to show them the famous egg that I found inside another egg. I was half- expecting them to shrug their shoulders and tell us they'd seen it before, but they had never seen anything like it in decades of selling eggs. They were quite agog about it, so I left the little egg with them as a souvenir.
Please say hello to my dear friend The Lizard Meanders who joined Blip yesterday. Luisa and I were at university together. She is a distinguished poet and a professor of creative writing at an American university. Yesterday, she wrote a wonderful poem about my egg which you can read here. Welcome to Blip, Luisa!
