All aboard the Hejaz Express!
Today, we travelled south from Damascus on the antique narrow-gauge Hejaz Railway - the one that T. E. Lawrence tried so assiduously to blow up. (Did you know that El Lawrence spent a holiday in September 1930 in the Aberdeenshire fishing village of Collieston, just up the road from Newburgh?). We were on our way across the desert to the black basalt Roman city of Bosra with its huge and impressive Roman theatre. A good day out!
