Unexpected tourist attraction

It's too easy to get sucked into the fast commuter pace of London. At 4.15, I left work determined to get home on time (our working hours change in January so that we no longer have a shorter day on Friday and leaving on time today was essential). I walked to the station, ran down the stairs and.... due to an incident no trains were going my way. For a moment, I was annoyed. I walked back up the stairs to catch a bus to London Bridge station. Once on the street again and walking to the bus stop, I thought I'd walk to London Bridge. It's Friday - why on earth was I rushing?

I don't normally walk down the north side of the Thames to London Bridge so I was surprised when I turned down a narrow street, turned a corner and the glory of St Paul's Cathedral appeared opposite me. I was suddenly in weekend mode. I slowed down, took out the camera and looked around. I walked across the Millenium Bridge, which had a smattering of tourists taking pictures of St Paul's. A commuter whipped passed me - I heard her coming with a steady, angry clip-clip-clip of her heels. At the underpass after the Tate Modern a percussionist was expertly playing classical tunes on a xylophone - he was absolutely brilliant. I sat listening to him for a few songs before I walked on to the station - a perfect, unplanned start to a Friday night. Thank you incident people.

Happy weekend!
