Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

BC Hydro project

Went out this morning to blip the deep dark and wet forest on my walk but as we were nearing the view spot we heard the barge coming to the little barge landing by the BC hydro station on the island. We had a great view from above and just watched the barge loaded with 3 cement mixers and one pumper come up
on the beach at the landing spot. Then we heard swearing and yelling when the pumper couldn't get any traction on the slope up. He finally made it and also the 3 cement trucks. They are covering the 2nd and last set of cables carrying the high voltage wires from the mainland over several islands and under water between all the way to Vancouver island. It's been a long project. The set on the left was connected first - you can see a smooth concrete over the top of the curve that is heading left down to the sea. You can see the barge and the ramp- hard to tell that the ramp is on the beach at high tide.. ( and then people wonder why there are so few clams on this beach). The tug that brought the barge is resting on the dock. He left and came back for the loaded barge around 3pm. The tide was considerably lower then. I hope they will finish soon - it's a challange to
work on an island. We do appreciate that we have electricity avaiable tho - especially this
time of year! I kind of like how the wires look in thus picture- I think you can see more large. (if that's possible). It was raining but the wind had just picked up to clear the mist a bit.

This one is for you, powerplanter!!

On the way back to Seattle tonight, rested (great sleeping here, can hear the sea...)and rejuvenated, ready for Fiona tomorrow! :-)
