Devil's Dyke
The longest/biggest anglo-saxon earthwork in the UK allegedy. 7.5 miles long and built to keep someone out so they say. Seeing as the fens (which it crosses) were impenetrable bogs and wetlands it may just have been a good dry safe route from the Icknield Way to Reach in the fens that had a waterway to the sea.....
We've now walked all of the Stour Valley path (60 miles from Newmarket to the "sea" at Cattawade) except about 4 miles in the middle which we will get in the next week or so.
Next stop the Peddar's Way
