RW's Daily Exposures

Checker Cab Driver Singh

This fellow was a willing subject in my contribution to an art exhibit that highlighted a flock of Styrofoam lambs. Jed Berk's concept of a flock of sheep were put together near the San Jose train station (a very public space) to reflect on the stewardship of land in the urban environment. I could share more photos of the actual flock, but the idea was to "borrow" a sheep or lamb for a few hours and take a photo of it somewhere in the San Jose city environs.

I grabbed one and asked a local cab driver/owner if he would mind having a photo with it, making like he was taking it as a fare. Singh was incredibly willing (of course he was about 7th in line for a fare at the train station), and very friendly. He is from Punjab India. An American citizen, he is proud to be here and running his own cab business. The lamb, well he/she was just there so I could get a portrait of this fine fellow.

I haven't uploaded this photo to the art site yet, but you can see the rest of the month long endeavor by other folks HERE.

There's also more information about the project on this link.

Please enjoy - I hope everyone had a great weekend!
