Cawfields quarry as the sun sets

I spent most of today in Haltwhistle: festival business, lunch with friends, watched holiday videos, did a big shop. On my way home, west to east on the Military Road, the sun was dropping rapidly behind me. I called at Cawfields Quarry and made this panorama from 4 hand held images.

The winds were very strong and the water was whipping up into white caps at times. It's not obvious in the photograph. Two brave walkers appeared to be setting out along the Hadrian's Wall Trail, hopefully for a short walk.

There have been storm force winds and some flooding locally.
