Backwards With Time

This is America!

Today I returned to my hometown of Charlotte, NC. My friend Lila (featured alongside the giant) was coming through Greensboro and was kind enough to pick me up and bring me back here. I have always passed this statue of Bill (at the Bill's truck stop along I-85) and have always admired his proud stance on freedom and democracy. In these tough times of not trusting out politicians and feeling like we need to clinch our guns even harder because next thing you know the government may come along and offer socialized insurance...and we all know that is evil. Bill has stood against such adversities, he has clinched his American flag and stood under an even taller flag and seen harsh storms, beautiful foliage, trucker after trucker come through. He has been through all the reality shows to come out (yes even the debacle that is Palin's Alaksa)...the countless fights that have broken out in the parking lot over who the greatest Nascar driver is, and who knows how many people have urinated on this guys leg.

He is a lasting figure that I have always cherished and I hope remains for my kids to see someday! Ever since I was a kid when I passed him I would say "Hi Bill!" and even today at my ripe age of 24 I still say hello to Bill as if he were an old friend...and you know what...he still waves back!
