Always Learning

I have learned a lot from RDS over the course of the past few years. We have gotten lost in time talking about everything from his day-to-day activities and observances to growing up a super poor kid and not even minding. I learned a lot about his childhood - enough to fill a very large book, I'm certain. I also learned about his relationship with my grandma, how he raised his children, what he loved to do as a child/young adult, where they went while traveling around as a retired couple, what he loves, what he dislikes, what he wanted to be when he grew up, what he actually became and how that difference made him feel, choosing a wife, choosing again, what he thinks about politics, family shenanigans, plastic surgery, baseball, football, and grocery shopping, how absolutely gigantic his heart is, how silly he is, how resilient a man can be, how a heart breaks and heals, what a cheery perspective can do for the soul, how and why you prepare for a road trip, the importance of being responsible and making a plan, that a 50 year age difference doesn't stand in the way of a friendship so genuine and real that it will be treasured for a lifetime, and that growing old - though kinda crappy - actually provides a time for some of the best bonding ever.

I love you, Grandpa. The least I can do is let you read my Cosmo magazine and perhaps learn things you never even realized you needed to know. :)
