Register House
We spent a couple of hours in the Reid Room searching the records for some of Mr T's ancestors. He's done an enormous amount of online research but there's more information available by going to the centre - cost is 10 pounds for the day, though we could only manage the afternoon. You can print off records for 50p each eg original birth, marriage & death certificates. I was chuffed to track down a missing 'James' who turned out to be a 'Jamesina' whilst Mr T was looking for descendants of a distant great uncle - surname Gow - we've been contacted by a TV station in Cyprus trying to find living relatives for someone whose Scottish father was killed in WW2.
We will be going again so if anyone wants a wee search done just let me know. All the Scottish records including parish registers going back to the 1500s Scotland's People Centre are available for searching.
I don't know who this statue is of - but the whole building inside is very impressive. PS just noticed there's a plaque on the bottom - will look at it next time ;-)
