Positioning

Friday and the day to get to the start line. Pickup at home (in the rain) at 1, drive to Hanmer Springs by 3, 80km up the Molesworth and at the campsite by 5. It had been raining when we left, but we arrived in the dry - yahoo! we cried, the storm was a fizzer.

Tents up, dinner started, but then something else started. The snow. And snow, hail and rain it did. All night in fact. We were warned at the race briefing that there could be 5-10cm of snow on the ground by morning based on news from down the road. The start was going to be delayed, at least.

Some tactical errors on my part. For some stupid reason I didn't bring my warmest sleeping bad, I also forgot my snow boots, and a warm hat. In my defence it is supposed to be spring/going into summer. 2 layers of clothes on and I finally got warm in bed ... a long cold, nosy night in the tent.
