Notes on Guy Fawkes Night:

Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, is an annual celebration held primarily in Great Britain, on or about the evening of 5 November. Festivities are centered on the use of fireworks and the lighting of bonfires. Some British Overseas Territories and parts of the Commonwealth continue to celebrate the occasion due to their links to the United Kingdom.
Historically, the celebrations mark the anniversary of the failed Gunpowder Plot of 5 November 1605. The date was originally made a public holiday in England by the Observance of 5th November Act 1605, also known as the "Thanksgiving Act" which was repealed in 1859.

Guy Fawkes Night originates from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed conspiracy by a group of provincial English Catholics to assassinate the Protestant King James I of England and VI of Scotland and replace him with a Catholic head of state.
