Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

November's First Friday

This is the 17th first Friday in November that we have lived in this home. I'm betting it is the first time we have spent it in the pool. Rarely does November arrive on a wave of summer heat.

This evening we had the wherewithal to ride that wave into the backyard pool . . . to spend an evening glancing at the black sky dotted with stars, listening to the night sounds, sitting and soaking in the heated water.

The gate that guards the cement stairs that lead to the pool equipment stood open an inch or three. Even though my sight was impaired somewhat by the pool's illumination, I noticed movement there at the gate's edge. I looked intently and realized a furry face was staring at me.

"Look! We've got a visitor," I told Mr. Fun.

Then I spoke to the little face, "Hi Kitty, Kitty. Come on. You are welcome in our yard."

From behind the gate the cat quickly stretched in then ran across the narrow walkway at the backside of the pool, jumped the wall and was gone into the darkness of the neighbors' yard.

We both mused about how surprised the cat was to see us. As if we, without permission, were in its territory. The whales in the pool had the same reaction. They stayed at the deep end, far from us all evening. We had one end of the pool all to ourselves. We enjoyed it immensely.

Tomorrow I'll photograph the jewelry I purchased last night. Tomorrow I'll grade student papers. Tomorrow I'll do the homework for the online class that I am enrolled in. Today was just too delightful to be concerned with accomplishing. It's been a fabulous first Friday of November.

It's been a great day just to "be." Tomorrow I'll "do."

Good night from Southern California.
