Stark Beauty
There is a certain stark beauty in these stems. The day lilies that I enjoyed in the summer stand as white bones in the winter garden. I don't cut down herbaceous perenials unless I have to until the spring as they serve to house many small creatures and protect them in the cold weather.
The gardener came and removed all the old apple tree that had to be taken out and a huge holly that was taking over behind the sheds. He also removed the turf that I dug out of the new area I am making for the cordon apples. I need to get the soil ready as they may be delivered soon as bare root trees and so I wanted to get their new home ready to go.
The only thing that may cause problems is frosty weather so perhaps a cover over the bed will keep the soil frost free until they arrive.
Here's hoping!
