Pere Marquette River

Went up to Lake County, Michigan - near Baldwin this last weekend. The mission was to close up and winterize the cabin with a good friend... but when we got there a huge oak tree had fallen close to the cabin. It was miraculously balancing on a large tree stump to our amazement. We had heard about a fallen tree from a neighbor who informed us that it had spared the cabin. What we didn't know is that it ended up perched in a perfect spot to cut up. It was also just about ten feet from the existing woodpile. We cut it and split it and stacked it in record time and still found time to walk this beautiful trail along the river. The Chinook Salmon were running upstream and a few good-sized trout darted around in the river as we passed. We just stood down there by the river for hours watching and soaking in all the enjoyment we could. The snow is coming and nothing lasts forever - that river, however, has been there for a long time.
