Betula pubescens
Today's the day ..................... to talk about the tree
This is the trunk of the birch tree in our front garden. We planted it as a small sapling when we bought the house in 1991. Now, almost twenty years later it has grown to be more than thirty feet high - taller than the house itself.
We put up this birdbox quite early on and it has had a variety of lodgers. Blue tits and great tits - and then one year such joy, when two nuthatches took up residence and reared three young.
It is the most beautiful tree too, in all seasons of the year. The fresh green leaves in the spring after the catkins right through to the wonderful autumn colours and then even when the leaves are gone, the bark is full of colour and texture ...........
