I heart Paris and crêpes.
Paris today!
Last time we went to Paris was back in January. I was just about to post a link to a previous blip but realised I didn't put any up then. I'll have to get that sorted.
Anyway, we re-traced many of our steps. Had lunch in the same little place called La Caravane out in the Belleville area which never fails to amaze. We skipped most of the tourist things (been there, seen the t-shirts). We generally floated around the cafés and the vintage shops. This little place was a strange, Japanese-run crêpe shop. Strange intit?
At night we headed out for a few drinks, again in the Belleville area, and managed to catch the beginning of a gig. Which was odd. The band were made up of two geography teacher types. They wore ties and tweed and were rocking some of the most awesome elbow patches I have ever set eyes upon. There music was a bit dodgey though. The younger guy (I say 'younger' but he was probably older than the combined age of the crowd) played synth. He was no Mozart by any means, it simply sounded like he pressed the demo button and pretended to play. His mate, teaching colleague or whatever played drums. No biggie.
Unfortunately we had to cut the gig short and run for the last train back to Rouen. All the beer had left us hungry though. 'No fear!' we thought, there's a McDonalds across from Gare St Lazare. Time running short however meant we would have to eat on the train. We suddenly realised what we had become; those bastards with the BigMacs on the train. Opening the paper bag on the train filled the whole carriage with a mustardy, salty, mechanically recovered meaty stench. There was no escape from the wafts of fast-food and guilt. No-one said a word though, or asked for a chip so we chuckled and drunkenly tucked into our lukewarm cow sandwich.
