Some of us have it easy!

We went to look at the Dhoby Vana (laundry) in Fort Cochin, where all the hotel laundry goes as well as peoples personal laundry. It is all done by hand by being beaten against flat stones as you also see people doing in the canals and lakes of the back waters.
The washing is then dried and if requested, ironed. This old lady was choosing to continue to use a charcoal iron though there were electric ones being used at the other end of the room. It is very heavy but she is doing an excellent job and taking pride in the fact that it gets a better finish than the 'modern' ones.
