Lustre

I was reading about Welsh lustre ware jugs the other day and one of the reasons given for the use of this bright glaze in the nineteenth century was to reflect and magnify the little light that there was in a dark cottage in the Welsh valleys before the days of electricity. Here in the Midi, on a day when thundery dark clouds are gathering outside, this little jug makes the most of what light there is, its fire reflected in a copper bowl.

The jug belonged to my great-grandmother in south Wales in the late nineteenth century, the bowl was bought by my parents in Turkey - two shining objects that have unexpectedly come together in southern France.

A lazy morning after a late night out with friends, and not much incentive to go outside today, so an indoor blip.
