Good Cents

Andrew showed me his bounty of acorns this afternoon. We have been studying the Native American of Rogue Valley. We learned that they ground these little nuts into flour and butter, and used them for toys - like a spinning top. I think the woven texture of their little helmets are beautiful.

His handful of acorns reminded me of my gathering job as a little girl. Growing up, we had several large oak trees in our backyard. and my Dad paid me a penny an acorn. If I was lucky I would make five dollars for a few hours of work. I am sure the rate has gone up - so, for now, I'll keep my childhood entrepreneurial job a secret :)
