Scots Pine Stump
I was working in Glen Lyon again today, carrying out more freshwater invertebrate surveys. On the moors, where the peat has eroded, you can find these ancient Scots Pine stumps, preserved in the peat for hundreds and sometimes thousands of years. They remind us of a time when much of Scotland was covered in pine woodland, The Caledonian Forest. Only 1% of this original forest remains today.
