HOME FOR WINTER

Went to Castelnaudary today and took a walk alongside the Canal du Midi. It's beautiful this time of year. The trees are gorgeous and a lot of peniches have come here to winter. Apparently winter moorage is cheaper in a small town. And it's lovely to see them lined up along both sides of the canal.

At risk of sounding like a fisherman telling about the big one that got away, I saw a spectacularly gorgeous male pheasant alongside the road as I was driving home. He was predictably with his rather plain and dowdy female companion. I stopped for a photo, but apparently he was unable to distinguish the camera from a gun, and as it is hunting season, he disappeared rapidly. Alas...
