Johny One Note No More

Last year my son was tagged as a "trumpet" personality by the band teacher he had while we were living in Alaska. For a year he grew to love blowing his horn.

Since moving back to Oregon, we have have experienced some set-backs in getting him in a band program. We spent weeks trying to get a school...any school public or private... to take him into their band program. He is 9 and there are no band programs for students unless they are in the 6th grade. Nobody in three districts would make any exceptions. Even a private school said they would have a liability issue. BUT every school after hearing him said he should be in their 7/8 grade band because his skills are so advanced.

Today, after an audition, 2 week application process and interview, my son was accepted into an 80 member 7/8th grade band at a local private school. He is so excited, he has been dancing around all afternoon.

It was a good lesson for him not to give up when the "no's" keep piling up.

(Still working on his room - came up with some more mural ideas and adding a wall of fame - who knows when it will be done :) creativity is unpredictable...)
