Great Gable
This is Matt toiling up Lingmell in the shade with Great Gable in brilliant sunshine across the valley. The last day of monitoring vegetation on the Scafell range. It's taken us two seasons and about 8 visits to complete. Today we did a circumnavigation of Lingmell, which included walking the edge of the deep and dramatic Piers Ghyll. Last year we were rained off twice, including the day in November when record rainfall up here led to terrible flooding downstream in Cockermouth and Workington. Today there were brilliant blue skies through the morning, with a hard frost underfoot.
We passed up amazing blipping opportunities en route to Wasdale: including a cloud inversion at Newby Bridge and wispy mist floating over Wast Water. But we had to finish today, so we pushed on.
I have posted one other picture here which shows my colleagues Simon and Matt relaxing on the way down.
Thanks to everyone who viewed and commented on my blip yesterday. Wifie was on the Spotlight page!
I'm exhausted now, so will catch up on comments tomorrow.
