In the Emperor's Garden

This is the house in the Emperor's Garden within the Forbidden City where Reginald Johnston , the Scottish academic who was the tutor to the last Emperor lived and worked. The whole of the Forbidden City is a remarkable and huge complex , crowded with Chinese visitors when I was there on Saturday and - as ever - somewhat shrouded by the every present Beijing haze, though the sun almost broke through just as we entered the main compound.
