Roughnecks

This Signal Hill "Tribute to the Roughnecks" sculpture is juxtaposed with a tank farm that undoubtably resulted from the hard work of thousands of men and women like the two shown here.

The plaque at the base reads: "To honor the courageous men and women who have been a part of the oil fields of Signal Hill. A field proven to be one of the richest in North America." There are also brief biographies of both men depicted in the statue.

Looking out across the Los Angeles area from Signal Hill, it is easy to see the marks left by the oil industry: working wells, tanks, refineries and port facilities.
