Ancient and Modern

Completed around 1638, Inigo Jones? gorgeous house introduced England the beauties of Palladian architecture. Richly decorated, and wonderfully furnished, it was used as a summer villa for Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of Charles the First. Overlooked by the Royal Observatory, home of the prime Meridian of the World, and Greenwich Mean Time, the house faces the Baroque buildings of The Old Royal Naval College, the Embankment, and across the Thames to the Isle of Dogs, where the modern buildings of Canary Wharf dominate the skyline.
