"So let me get this straight," interrupted Margaret. "You lot - Hewson and all your wee shopkeeper pals - you've been brainwashing people into buying in your shops instead of the supermarket? And they've all been conned into going to that fake church of yours?"

Hearing the tone of her voice, he was suddenly less sure of having right on his side.

Noticing his reluctance to speak, Molly said, "yes, that's about the size of it."

"Well it's no bloody wonder people have been acting strange lately," she laughed. "There's not a thing worth buying in that shop of yours, Phil Armstrong. It's a wonder you've kept the place going at all, with the amount of absolute rubbish you have on your shelves!"

She sniffed.

"As my old dad used to say, you can't polish a turd."
