Stopped by our local recreation of the National Iwo Jima Memorial to snap a few pictures today on my drive home. It's much smaller than the real thing, and when I went on my 8th grade class trip to Washington, D.C., I was shocked at the size of the original.

We lost 99 men from Connecticut in the battle, and there are 99 flags flying around the perimeter of the memorial. The hundredth is the one actually incorporated into the statue, seen here. Close second.
