The Water Carrier
Another struggle to find a good blip today, not helped by the fact that a) I completely forgot till gone 5pm and b) it was too cold to want to go out for a walk.
Then I thought of my Lladro lady - the water carrier, finally on display in our new cabinets in the kitchen/diner, after a couple of years kept safe in bubble wrap in a cardboard box in the attic! Couldn't get the light right in the cabinet though so I took the photo against the cooker splashback as it is black and shows her off a bit better.
I am definitely not an ornament fan - especially the usual 'china ladies' all frills and a bit twee - but I've always loved my mum's Lladro pieces. She started buying them when we lived on an RAF camp in Berlin, I think they were a lot cheaper over there then. The water carrier was always my favourite, I'm not really sure why, think I just like the expression on her face.
I didn't know my mum knew how much I loved this piece until she gave it to me as a present - it came a bit out of the blue. She's since given me another one, a smaller one, but quite similar. Lladro don't seem to make pieces like this anymore, they've moved more towards the 'cuter' china ornaments and I really don't like them. But my water carrying lady is elegant and stylish - she means a lot to me as a link to my childhood and a reminder that my mum perhaps knows me better than I thought.
