Camden Film Fest

Whoa, the night before was quite a ruckus...

Some potent coffee managed to help and soon we were off on an apple picking adventure. It was a cliche, it was so New England-esque! The rain from the night before has been replaced by crisp sunshine, cool air, and fall leaves bursting in colors.

We picked apples in the morning at a local orchard to make cider, rambled down "quaint" New England country roads, and went to the Camden Film Festival in the afternoon. The town of Camden was beautiful and picturesque beyond a cliche even. Meaning it was a tourist town, where everything is perfect. Although not exactly the typical Maine village it had all the Maine accoutrements you could ask for. A gorgeous harbor with bobbing sail boats, crisp fall foliage, cute shops and cafes, and old Maine churches and town parks.

Although neither Sharon's short film or WD's new premier is playing today we came to see some of the other films. We saw two and I got a little glimpse into the documentary film world. An interesting experience. It seems there are nearly as many film maker people and VIP, as the public who are in most of the film venues. This all begs the question of who are you producing these films for if not primarily for the public audience? I guess it is all about the networking, a lesson that has been drilled into me since I've arrived.

We saw two stellar films. One called "War Don Don", an excellent character driven look at international law institutions and the disarmament of Sierra Leone's civil war. The other was called, "Marwencol". A hard to describe character driven documentary about imagination and art from the perspective of a memory loss patient relearning how to live and express himself.

Come evening we were all worn out, full day. The stars were shiny and bright without a trace of clouds. Cold and bright on a new New England night.
