Cinq Terre

After a short train ride we boarded a boat that took us to Riomaggiore; one of the southern most villages of the Cinq Terre. These tiny villages are perched on any available spot around the harbour, jostling each other for attention. Unfortunately we chose to walk the 'Via del Amore' on a Saturday - every lover, and most of the passengers from vast crusie ships for miles around were also there! Not at all romantic! So we headed inland up steep narrow paths through olive groves and on to equally narrow paths through vineyards - sometimes so narrow it was difficult to pass oncoming walkers.

Swimming at the end of the day was JUST what the doctor ordered, and boy was the water lovely!
