Roadside Memorial
Another shrine along the highway constructed by friends and family. Usually they are placed at the location of the death of loved ones. There is no information about the circumstances, but we can imagine. Two big crosses and one small cross would indicate an auto accident that killed parents and a child. Very sad.
This was seen on our morning bike ride to the Biosphere II turnoff. Round trip was 23 miles and after climbing and descending over the 300 foot SaddleBrooke Hill, the route was all UP (550 feet in 8 miles) and AGAINST THE WIND! Average speed up was 8 or 9 mph, but the return was a HOOT at about 20 to 25 mph.
In the upper right corner of the photo you can see Black Mountain, one of the sky islands that pops up out of the desert. Black Mountain is the scene of an annual 24 hour mountain bike race. One of the downhills is equivalent to riding a bike off the top of your house. I don't do it but have fun watching the experts.
