Thanksgiving, Protection and Industry

This sculpture by the artist Stephen Broadbent stands between the Town Hall and the Cathedral in Chester. Protection faces the Town Hall and has it's arms around the other two figures. The second figure, Industry, is a spiraling form reaching the ground suggesting the work and effort of every citizen. And the third figure, Thanksgiving, which is placed centrally, looks towards the Cathedral.

A plaque on the base of the sculpture reads:
Whose city walls make secure the freedom to work and worship.

A Celebration of Chester was commissioned in 1992 by Chester Cathedral, Chester City Council and Capital Bank as part of the 900 years celebrations of Chester Cathedral.

It is also a great spot for pigeons to roost and enjoy the sunshine.

As I left the Town Hall Square this little chap came walking towards me. Strangely no-one in the photograph is giving him a second look. So British.
