A Belted Galloway

Having now spent two days in Galloway I was getting worried by the question "Where have all the Belties gone?" I seem to remember that in my youth belted Galloway cattle were plentiful in the fields here. And not one to be seen - until this chap suddenly appeared.

Someone said that they were too difficult to work with. They certainly had to be tough and rugged to live on the wilder pastures of south-west Scotland.

Belted Galloways are primarily raised for their quality marbled beef, although they are sometimes milked and purchased to adorn pastures due to their striking appearance. In the US these cows are often informally known as "police car cows,""panda cows" or "Oreo cows" after the cookie!
