Guard Geese
Mazerolles, in the Razes.
In the hills south of Fanjeaux, we were barked at by these geese. The farmyard was fortified by washing machines. there was even a miniature police car glaring at us. Undeterred, we continued up the hill.
It was like Alice in reverse - instead of falling down a hole and finding wonderland, we discovered more and more of it the higher we climbed: A garage full of trompe d'oeil cars, a barn full of bread ovens, a tree heavy with pomegranates, another with lemons, a garden full of swimming pool ladders, a gang of cats, each missing a part; a tail, an ear.....
We found a little place next to a church which had both a tower and a steeple, and a cat which didn't smile, but did dance on the ground with Gabby - a kind of synchronised dance. We met an old man who spoke a mixture of Portuguese and Occitan and a Dutch man fixing his bicycle.
Then we headed back down the hill and back past the barking geese.
