Kessock Bridge
Started the Ord Hill walk from the car park on the A9 just north of the Kessock Bridge (but on the southbound carriageway). I intended just to get to the first viewpoint but was then tempted to go on to the next - pufff-pufff-pufff - quite a steep climb. Then decided I was so high I might as well go on to the iron-age fort at the top.. As I already knew there's not much to see of the fort - just a few rocks signalling the boundary rampart and a (recent) cairn at the summit. The walls are quite a distance from the summit so the fort must have covered quite an area if the walls followed the contours of the hill. And the iron-age folk must have had a fantastic view of the Moray Firth but now there's no view from the top thanks to the Forestry Commission (or their successors) who have understandably planted trees. On the other hand they have made many acres accessible to all and waymarked many paths so on the whole they have served us well. This view is south-looking and the bridge marks the boundary between Moray Firth to the left and Beauly Firth to the right.
