Inventions Box

I had to grab this picture of Loren's 'inventions box'. He has always collected miscellaneous things over the years. The things we would consider trash he considers treasures. He saves things he finds on the ground with the intention of making an invention someday out of them. I have to admit that I've gotten irritated many a times when doing laundry and finding crazy things in his pockets. There have been times I've thrown the stuff away, but I've come to realize that they may be treasures to him. I ended up giving him my grandfather Reaney's old box where he stored his drawing charcoals and other supplies. This wooden box is now the home to his 'finds'. I told him to keep the things here instead of all over so I won't mistakingly throw them away.

His 5th grade teacher (Mrs. Rivera) recently came up to me at school and said that she was reading the letters from last year from his prior classmates. These were letters they were writing to themselves to be opened in 5 years, a sort of time capsule idea. She had plans on sending them out to her students after the 5 years had passed, but had noticed that due to the economy, kids were moving a lot. In fear that they wouldn't be at the same address at that future date, she is thinking of sending them now for the parents to hold onto. While reading them recently, she said that several students had mentioned Loren's 'inventions' in their letters. Evidently, he had quite the 'industry' going on in his desk at school, unbeknownst to her at the time. He had shown his friends some of the gadgets, one specific one being the ones the kids had mentioned. This, I believe, was the portable pencil lead holder. :) It had a nerf suction cup on it with the different barrels to store all the lead; you never know when you might need to suction it somewhere to be prepared for homework :D Seen here in my blip photo is his inventions box. I love my creative boy!
