On yer bike

I've blipped before about Bristol's status as a 'cycling city' and about how it is aiming to double the number of cyclists by next year.

Well, you can add one more to the total. No, not me, silly! It's my much better other half.

However, there was a slight hiccup to her two-wheeled masterplan. Before the plan was publicly launched, she lent her bike to a colleague, who left it chained up inside the gates of the school where they both work.

It was left unattended for no longer than an hour, but it was enough time for someone to get in, whip out the bolt-cutters and make off with it.

The machine was duly replaced by the uninsured friend with a reconditioned model from Jake's Bikes and Mrs Dailykeith is now using it to get to school, using a 'D' lock to keep thieving hands away.

Please don't ask when I plan to join the cycling revolution!
