Yip-pee

The Yip Shing wholesalers in Gloucester let me take a photo today. I went to buy my fresh tofu, which I love, when cooked the way I like it. I spent a year in south-east asia including the period during the Falklands War. I would read the Bangkok Post to hear three day old news of a task force and Belgrano, which seemed bizarre and hard to comprehend in that locale.

The best part of my travels was finding the ever-present dietary role of tofu or tahu, ther name depending on which place I was in. I still smell the memory of the vapours from sizzling chili and garlic prawns, under a palm tree at lunchtime on Batu Feringghi beach on the island of Penang. Coming home meant a constant new search for Asian emporia which might supply me with the real ingredients again.

So here are some of the goodies available, seven days a week, in the Cotswolds. Tofu is in the fridge, in case you are interested. Even the lighting seems like being in Bangkok at midnight.
