Special moment

Since I got my darling little Milo back in March, I have talked about a number of Milestones that she has had, her first feed with us, her first shed, her first holiday, her first rat. Well today was another milestone though more for me than for her. Today I was given the smallest moment to witness her shedding. The photo is poor quality as it's taken with flash, through glass, in near darkness.

I've been waiting all weekend for her to shed, she was due a feed today so we went ahead as normal. After all, if you'd just eaten a weeks worth of food whilst wearing a tight fitting, itch jumper, you'd probably want to take it off too. After a long soak in the bath (me, not her), I returned to find one of her hides twisted round and covering the thermostat sensor. I had no choice but to move it so that her viv wouldn't overheat. On lifting the hide I found the tip of her nose skin was peeling away. Her hides are quite snug so it wouldn't fit down again. She gave me a few big yawns, stretched her face and then headed over to her other hide.

Just when I thought that tiny tip of nose was the last I would see, she popped her head back out with the whole head revealed. Not as great as getting to watch her shed in entirity but given she was already feeling vulnerable due to a tummy full of mouse, I didn't want to excessively stress her.
