They came, they trashed, they left!
I'm not talking about the war on Iraq either...
It looks like a fairly run of the mill birthday pic for the album, but behind those innocent, brightly painted faces of angelic looking 7 year olds girls lies a very different truth...
I thought, as mother's do, that it would be nice for Tanya's 7th birthday to throw a party for all the girls in her class to make her feel more part of things and not just the little English girl. They all come across as nice kids...mannerly, polite, chatty...nothing to fear...I thought. How wrong could I have been...
We nail painted, we face painted, we made pizza...then the screaming started. They screamed...and screamed some more...in a higher pitch...and then some more just for good measure...they ran about like loonies, hiding under beds, slamming doors, locking themselves in toilets....and then came the pinyata!! We had shoving, pushing, tears, total hysteria...No amount of adult supervision could have controlled that mob. The adults I had recruited to help out bade their farewells hastily before the end of the party with a look of complete horror. It was a truly eye opening experience and one thing is for sure I will now look at their poor teacher in a completely different light...she must have the patience of a saint.
