every family has their special little things they do each season. special places to go for a walk in the woods, secret mushrooming or berry picking spots, nostalgic recipes to be cooked.

me? every fall i get antsy for the day my dad will make apple butter. when the whole house smells sweetly of apples and spice. hours after hours of stirring the pot. watching apple chunks slowing transforming into a thick smooth delicious spread. these past few years ive been making an effort to help him through the whole process (silently noting all his special little techniques that make it the best apple butter you'll ever taste. i promise im not partial).
