Unexpected Owl

The hot summer and accompanied activities have kept me from posting, but I went for a walk in the woods today and found my photo. I had heard the call of a sapsucker and stopped to see if I could spot it. To my delight, there was an owl perched in the tree right beside me. I couldn't believe my luck. I took lots of photos, but the facial ones showed the red reflection of the retina at the back of the bird's eyes, which made the pics rather ghoulish. I chose a back view instead. The trees with their lichen/mossy branches really make a good setting for the photo, don't you think?
