The Sound of the Crowd.

Human League.

Campus is very weird today.
In a good way.

It's still going on....
but in front of the flagpole today
(which had a PRIDE flag waving from it too!).

I actually managed to get on the roof of the student center (Slayter) to get this photo (out of sheer luck and timing), after attempting photos through the window but having a hard time avoiding the concrete columns blocking my view. As time went on, more and more people assembled (it grew to at least three times the size later). More people shared stories, opinions, etc. News crews showed up and there were even helicopters.

It nearly broke my heart, though, to see some of the happiest people I know on campus get up in front of the crowd and cry about the hatred that has been happening (including one gay young man who has been super-supportive of me the last few months). Today has made me feel a lot better about this campus. For the longest time I have been unhappy with the people & stuff here, and have been wanting to leave... but today, I didn't want to.

People ended it by making everyone hold hands in circles,
and then a few students sang a song for everyone.

Dinner was odd. All the tables were pushed together.
Students and faculty were eating dinner together.
News camerapeople were walking around.
People were opening themselves up and giving support.

People are still gathered right now in various dorm lounges,
speaking over microphones to the crowd.
Students are displaying signs such as "I Love You"
and "I will give you a hug" (or something like that).

I am looking forward to the next week or so.
Hopefully the atmosphere will start to change for the better.
