saighdear 'na laighe, 1100
today in sleet and hail we travelled northwest to a green grassy corner of skye, where colmcille founded a wee 8th century monastery on an island between two rivers. this soldier's grave-slab was contained within the small cathedral that flourished here from 1079 till 1498. hard to believe from this image that we were so cold and windswept we couldn't stay to talk and look about.
