A wee bit of rain!

I reckon this isn't the pic those of you who have been following my storm warnings this week were expecting. I bet you were all looking out for the bleak landscape or the crazy seas.

Unlike my two fellow islanders I didn't venture outside. It was wild enough inside.

The strange pic? Are you sitting comfortably? I'll begin....

...in our bathroom, when the wind blows from the North, North West, it finds it way through the pipes. Normally all we get is a strange gurgling from the loo and some waves sloshing around in the toilet bowl. This morning however I came out of the shower to a cacophany of percussion noises. It was like having Evelyn Glennie rattling around in the plumbing.

I was a bit perplexed to say the least. Then I realised that I was being sprayed with water. Foamy water! Couldn't figure out what the hell was going on.

Then I spotted the fountain coming out of the bath. The wind was blowing so strong that it was forcing the water from the shower back up through the pipes and out of the plughole in the bath!

Been a mad day altogether. But actually quite fun. Days like this always are, so long as no real damage is done. Wind gusting at least 80mph (I might be wrong but I think they pass hurricane force at 80mph). Huge seas, lifeboat called out (false alarm thankfully, brave guys those lifeboat folk). Power is going off all over the place.

But the fire is on and we're all cosy indoors. So long as the roof stays on and we manage to cook the dinner before the electricity goes off we'll be fine. And if it does, well we've got our wee woodburner stove and a camping gas cooker and a lot of candles.

FRIDAY 9th: Bright with further wintry showers F7 NW'ly winds continue to ease. Showers beginning to die out through the morning as NW'ly winds ease F5-7. Clouding over during the afternoon with patchy rain possibly spreading from the west by evening as F5 winds back W'ly.
Sea state - Extremely rough with a 7 to 8 metre N'ly swell.
