For whom the bell tolls

Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
John Donne

Today was my second day at Crieff and before I left the Hydro to travel back to Edinburgh the weather had sufficiently settled down to be able to get an exterior shot of all that Victorian grandiosity. Crieff Hydro

In a little building outside this handsome bell is hung. When the Hydro first opened, it was situated on top of the building. Its function - it was to be rung at lunchtime to let the golfers on the golf course know that it was time for lunch!

The Victorian equivalent of five star hotel service. Nowadays, the golfers would probably leave their mobile phone numbers to receive a group text!
